How/who/when named India as India, we had hindi & sanskrit languages here the how India word came in who named?

The earliest known cultures that define the roots of India grew up along the Sindh river basin in western Punjab (northwest India), starting around 4,000 BC. This "Sindhi" culture eventually became corrupted to "Hind" (hence the occupants of India and observers of its religion called Hindus), then anglicized during the British occupation to "India". In fact, India locally is still referred to in literature as "Hind" or "Hindustan".

How/who/when named India as India, we had hindi %26amp; sanskrit languages here the how India word came in who named?
The name India is derived from Indus, which is derived from the Old Persian word Hindu, from Sanskrit Sindhu, the historic local appellation for the Indus River.
Reply:In olden days civilizations formed around and along the river as it was the main source for water, both for agriculture and other activities. One such civilization is Sindus Valley Civilization. People of this civilised society were called "Sinds", which got corrupted to Indus and the nation came to be known/called as "India".

Has this Arabic word "Namaz" derived from Sanskrit 'Nama Japa' that is "to pray by taking the name of God'?

Namaz is not from Arabic, it is an Urdu word which is influenced largely by the Persian and the Arabic besides Hindi. Hence, you are right that Namaz has come from 'Nama Japa'.

Has this Arabic word "Namaz" derived from Sanskrit 'Nama Japa' that is "to pray by taking the name of God'?
Firstly "Namaz" isnt an Arabic word, its a Paki/Indian word. They use it instead of saying "salaat" because I guess they cant say our words or something. its just like they can pronounce the Qu'ran properly and they say "zaaliin" instead of saying it the correct way, "dhaaliin". Hmm maybe its cuz their accent is really ugly lol.

Can some explain the meaning of "MAYA" (illusion - sanskrit) to me? as this is my name.?

The girl's name Maya \ma-ya\ is pronounced MYE-ah. It is of Spanish, Hindi and Russian origin. In Spanish, short form of Amalia. In Hindi, from Sanskrit, meaning "dream, illusion". In Russian, a form of Mary. A star constellation. See also Mai.

Maya has 3 variant forms: Maiya, Miah and Miya.

Maya: Hindu - Hinduism Dictionary on Maya

maya: (Sanskrit) "Consisting of; made of," as in manomaya, "made of mind."

From the verb root ma, "to measure, to limit, give form." The principle of appearance or manifestation of God's power or "mirific energy," "that which measures." The substance emanated from Siva through which the world of form is manifested. Hence all creation is also termed maya. It is the cosmic creative force, the principle of manifestation, ever in the process of creation, preservation and dissolution.

See: loka, mind (universal), mirific.

The Upanishads underscore maya's captivating nature, which blinds souls to the transcendent Truth. In Shankara's Vedantic interpretation, maya is taken as pure illusion or unreality. In Saivism it is one of the three bonds (pasha) that limit the soul and thereby facilitate its evolution. For Saivites and most other nondualists, it is understood not as illusion but as relative reality, in contrast to the unchanging Absolute Reality.

In the Saiva Siddhanta system, there are three main divisions of maya, the pure, the pure-impure and the impure realms. Pure or shuddha maya consists of the first five tattvas - Siva tattva, Shakti tattva, Sadasiva tattva, Ishvara tattva and Shuddhavidya tattva. The pure-impure realm consists of the next seven tattvas. The impure realm consists of the maya tattva and all of its evolutes - from the kala tattva to prithivi, the element earth. Thus, in relation to the physical universe, maya is the principle of ever-changing matter. In Vaishnavism, maya is one of the nine Shaktis of Vishnu.

See: loka, mind (universal), mirific, tattva, world.

(See also: Maya , Hinduism, Body Mind and Soul)

Can some explain the meaning of "MAYA" (illusion - sanskrit) to me? as this is my name.?
Maya can mean a number of things. As a Spanish name it is just a form of writing Amalia and in the Russian it is just another form of Mary. The name Maya from Hindi has far more history and culture attached to it then the European substitutions for other names.

In short the Hindi word Maya means a dream or an illusion. In Hindu tradition Maya is personified through a great goddess along with the other two concepts of “Prakruti” or matter and “Shakti” or activity. In Hindu philosophy man relies on all three to exist but it is Maya that lets him perceive the other two. In Buddhism Maya refers to the name of the woman who conceived Buddha Shakyamuni. In scriptures her name appears as either Mahamaya or Mayadevi meaning Great Maya and Goddess Maya respectively.

What is the Korean name for Buddhist Prayer beads? (Mala is Sanskrit or Fo zhu in Chinese)?

I'm just curious? I know is China there are several names Fo zhu, Shu zhu and nian zhu are the most common, translating as Buddha beads, counting beads or prayer beads respectively. I have seen many pictures of Korean monks with malas and several Americans who practice Korean Buddhism with them. However, the Americans call them Malas and I have yet to ask a Korean practitioner. So, I'm asking you. Does anyone know what they are called in Korean?

What is the Korean name for Buddhist Prayer beads? (Mala is Sanskrit or Fo zhu in Chinese)?
The Korean term for mala is "yum joo."

Actually, the exact term used depends on how many beads on the string:

- 108 beads is called "yum joo"

- 1000 beads (!) is simply called "yum"

I'm not sure about the smaller 27 bead mala, but it's probably a "yum-something."

Give me some good name to keep for jain art gallery it can be in sanskrit hindhi or english with its meaning?
Ananda is a Sanskirt word that means "the joy without which the universe would come apart." It was also the name of the Buddha's best friend.

If your art is supposed to be beautiful and not edgy, maybe that would be good. You could combine it with words describing your location, like Ananda East if you are on the east side. Go for a word that has an ah or ee vowel sound.

Can anyone suggest some beautiful hindu/sanskrit house names?

and also please suggest any website where i can find names of houses.

Can anyone suggest some beautiful hindu/sanskrit house names?
It depends a lot on what you want your house to be "celebrated" for, of course, so I'm just going to throw out a lot of ideas and you'll have to pick from among them.

What you probably want for a house name is a Sanskrit compound word -- the first half of the compound word will be what you want to celebrate, and the second half will be a Sanskrit word meaning "house" or "place of".

For example (not a good house name, but a word you know), the Sanskrit word Himalaya comes from "hima" meaning "ice or snow" and "alaya" meaning "abode", so Himalaya is the place where there is ice or snow.

Thus, the word "devalaya" means "place of the deva (god)" or temple. This might be a suitable house name for you, depending on your religious leanings. You could also use a specific Hindu (or other) god as the first half, so getting "Ramalaya" or "Krishnalaya" or "Shivalaya".

A more secular personality might want to use "Shantigriha", from "shanti" meaning "peace" and "griha" meaning "house", so "house of peace".

Or you could use "Shrinivasa", which is a fairly common name (even for a person) in Sanskrit and its derived languages. "Shri" means "prosperity" or "beauty", and "nivasa" means "place where one resides", so "Shrinivasa" means "place where beauty (or wealth) resides". Its popularity as a person's name comes from the Hindu tradition that the goddess Shri is Vishnu's wife, and she is always at his side, so he is personally "Shrinivasa".

This just scratches the tip of the iceberg, as in Sanskrit there are dozens of words for "house" or "place of residence", and any of these could be the second half of a compound word, and you could put virtually anything that suited your fancy as the first half.

Is the word 'Name' in English derived from the Sanskrit word "Nama" like many words in Greek and Latin?

The English language is a mixture of influence from Latin and Greek and both these ancient European languages are derived from Sanskrit. The linguists of the West have till date not been able to find out the origin of the languages as a whole, where as, in India there is a scientific background to the origin of sound and language linked with anatomy of the human body.

Hence, to repeat that the Indo - European languages had a common growth is with out any foundation. Sanskrit has developed independently and at a much later stage went to Persia and other European places where the human civilization was in a primitive stage around 3500 B.C. The ancient civilizations like that of the Phoenician and the Sumerian or Aztec and Mesopotamia are much later as compared to the ancient Indian civilization. Now the archaeological findings in these places carry the evidence that at one time a maritime power had come to these places with the torch of civilization at least 4 to 5 thousand years back.

Hence, common words are all derivatives of Sanskrit which has a strong grammatical base. Till the 3rd century B.C. India was the only country with Universities where scholars from far off Persia, Macedonia, Greece, Iraq, Syria and China used to come and study.

Is the word 'Name' in English derived from the Sanskrit word "Nama" like many words in Greek and Latin?
Main Entry: 1name

Pronunciation: 'nAm

Function: noun

Etymology: Middle English, from Old English nama; akin to Old High German namo name, Latin nomen, Greek onoma, onyma
Reply:No, the Englsh word "name" did not come directly from Sanskrit but from Greek 'onoma' and from there to Latin 'nomen' which might well came from other Indo-European source..
Reply:English, as well as most other European languages, Persian and the languages of Northern India have a common ancestor, called Proto Indo-European. Since much of the vocabulary survived the millennia, you find similarities. However, this relationship is a "sibling" relationship, not an "intergenerational" relationship. That's why the answer to your question must be, "No, the English word 'name' is not derived from the Sanskrit word 'nama', but English and Sanskrit are sisters with common traits."

In Serenity what is written in Hindi or Sanskrit on the cruiser? It's name obviously, but what?

You know when they go into town with the spaced out babe and the 'Rivers' attack them.

In Serenity what is written in Hindi or Sanskrit on the cruiser? It's name obviously, but what?
Its the name of the ship, which is Serenity, just written in a different language. Serenity's not the universe they are in, it was a battle Mal was in where he lost all his troops, so to commemorate that he named his ship Serenity. Was that nerdy that I knew that?
Reply:Wow. That's a tough one. Not sure you're gonna get an answer short of emailing Joss Whedon himself. If the Wikipedia entry for Serenity doesn't have it, I don't know what would. (BTW, it's 'reavers') Good luck!
Reply:I thought all the writing was Chinese, as that was a dominant language in the Serenity universe. I'd have to pull out my DVD to be sure, though.

I've had two years of Sanskrit.

You can email me (on my profile) and I'll help you if you want.

Or you could just look up the meaning of your name. Then look up it up in a Sanskrit dictionary.

The monier williams dictionary is pretty easy to use. Spoken Sanskrit is also pretty good, but may not be as credible.

If you look up a Sanskrit grammar you can just take the vocative case of this word and then you will have your name in Sanskrit.

Need very good sanskrit indian boy names?

We are expecting a boy baby soon. we are in process of selecting very good and unique name from sanskrit. could you please suggest me few names?

we have seen a new unique name "Razavath" from one of the site. Anyone of you know the meaning of this name?

Need very good sanskrit indian boy names?
I've only heard of Ramavath, maybe its just a twist someone added? Alot of people are adding letters and changing the spelling to make names more unique these days. Im not sure of the meaning, but Rama means high or exalted.

What religion/surname does it have to go with? (for meaning). There are soo many sanskrit names to chose from! any particular letter you want it to start with?

Does anyone know the hindu/sanskrit meaning of the female name TANIRA? Thanks?

Tanira comes from the sanskrit word "tanir" meaning a bloated bull or ox. When you affix the "a" at the end, it changes the meaning totally. Now it means a stream or river where the local harlots can come to cleanse themselves after a particularly rough session of copulation.

Does anyone know the hindu/sanskrit meaning of the female name TANIRA? Thanks?
Tibetans translate the Sanskrit word tanira as gyud, which means a kind of thread.

I know what the name breann is in hindi would it be written the same in sanskrit?

Yes because both Hindi and Sanskrit share the same script (Devanagri) So a name in one will be written the same way in the other.

I want to get a Sanskrit letter K for the first initial of a name!?

I need a picture of this that is big enough for me to print out. The actual tattoo will be tiny, behind my left ear. I want to make sure I am putting the right thing on my body before it is wrong and there forever...Please help!!

I want to get a Sanskrit letter K for the first initial of a name!?
Hi, since it is not possible to paste the letter in here doubleclicking will take you to a site where you will find sanscrit alfaphabets, fonts, infor etc. You can copy the letter you want and paste it with a program like Adobe Photoshop, Paint, or whatever graphic design programs, save it and then modify the size to your convenience. Also with alt gr + print screen then open any new archive and paste.

However sanskrit is more a silabary than an alphabet so e.g ka, ke, ki, ko, ku are different letters. Since the late 19th century, Sanskrit has been written mostly with the Devan膩gar墨 alphabet. However it has also been written with a number of other alphabets, including the Brahmi, Kharosthi, Sharda, Siddham and Bengali alphabets. You will also find links for these at the page below.

http://www.omniglot.com/writing/sanskrit...

If you have any problem accessing this page, you should not have, send me a medssage with your email and I will be glad to send you a good and clear sancrit alphabet and the different variations within sanscrit in a zip file.

Below, same site, you will find alphabets of all languages old or new you could need:

May any one help in giving the English scientific name of plant by name Birvah in sanskrit and it's utilities.?

"Hatha jori" is the root of a rare kind of herb found in Madhaya Pradesh(India) in Amar Kantek hills and in the Lumibani valley of Nepal, there are thick forests. In these jungles one can find a plant know as "BIRVAH" which has blue and white coloured flowers and which is similar to the Dhatura plant. If one digs carefully on Sunday, the earth near the roots of this plant Will reveal two small sized branches. At that place one will find branches which look like a hand having fingers or those which look like two hands joined together in prayer. This branch is cut and separated, and is called HATHA JORI. Hatha Jodi is small in size about 1.5" - 2.0" and equally broad. One can see two stems joined together distinctly (gives a feel of two hands).

After taking it out, it is immersed in Til oil. It is said that Hatha Jodi absorbs about one litre Til oil in a month whereas its weight remains the same. When it stops to absorb oil, it is taken out. After performing Puja, Hatha Jodi is kept in Sindoor (Vermillion).

Reply:temasek
Reply:The name Singapore was derived from Malay words singa (lion) and pura (city), which in turn derived from the Sanskrit 啶膏た啶傕す si峁僪a and 啶啶?pura.[1] Folklore attributes this name to a 14th-century Sumatran prince Sang Nila Utama, who, on alighting the island after a thunderstorm, renamed it Lion City after spotting an auspicious beast identified as a lion.[2]

Reply:"Chandra" - I believe it is a Sanskrit name. It means - "the moon... she outshines the stars". I chose it for my daughter a long time ago. Everybody likes it. A neat thing is... she has very pale skin, hazel/green eyes, and golden hair which I think is quite fitting. Sort of in keeping with the color scheme of the moon %26amp; stars.
